Around 1,700 Australians are waiting for a life-saving or life-improving transplant. Sadly, people die waiting for the gift of a heart, liver, kidney, lung or pancreas transplant. One donor can save the lives of up to 10 people and improve the lives of dozens more.
Australia's record of successful transplants is among the best in the world.
Here at BIG4 Atherton Woodlands Tourist Park, the owner Quentin Fletcher received such a wonderful gift of life in 2009 when a liver transplant saved his life. It was an amazing journey for our family and we are very happy to share our story as it is something we are extremely passionate about and we believe that by sharing our story, those waiting for a transplant will gain hope and those thinking about making this decision will be inspired to do so.
Transplant Australia believes that all Australian families should discuss organ and tissue donation as well as register their decision to donate on the Australian Organ Donor Register – the official national register for organ and tissue donation. You can make a difference by registering your decision to be an organ donor and discussing your decision with your loved ones.
You can register your decision at Medicare Australia. If you would like more information, you can visit the website on:www.donatelife.gov.au.
Transplant Australia is the national community organisation promoting organ and tissue donation and caring for all those touched by transplantation. Following the screening of Undercover Boss on Channel 10 on Monday the 8th of November 2010 BIG4 Holiday Parks, Australia made a very generous donation to Transplant Australia of $5,000 and Transplant Australia made Quentin an Honorary Member, of which we are extremely proud.
